What To Read Based On Your Favourite Star Wars Character

Sooo… I may have finished watching all nine Star Wars films for the first time ever, in the space of three weeks, and now I’m a TINY BIT OBSESSED. Okay, “tiny” is totally an understatement. I’ve read fan fiction, I’m currently watching The Mandalorian, and I’ve seen The Force Awakens THREE TIMES SO FAR. I honestly can’t believe I never got into Star Wars before now! It’s the best thing ever!

Because Star Wars is basically the only thing I can think about now (including Kylo Ren’s eight pack), I thought it was time to do a recommendation post based on my “research”. Because who doesn’t need more Star Wars-esque content in their lives?! I know I do. I don’t even need air to breathe. My love of this fandom will sustain me.

So today I decided to recommend some books based on your favourite Star Wars character! Yes, I’ve only chosen characters from the final three Star Wars films because otherwise we’d be here ALL DAY — but maybe I’ll make one of these for the original series and the prequels another time. Maybe for the spin-off series as well! The possibilities are endless!

Let’s do this.

Poe Dameron | The Disasters

If you’re just as in love with Poe as I am, you HAVE to read The Disasters. I mean, what makes you swoon more than a hotshot pilot who’s made a few mistakes but is 100% willing to put himself in harm’s way to protect his friends? I fell in love with Poe from the moment I met him, and I felt totally the same way with Nax from The Disasters.

Finn | Legend

This one’s an oldie but a goodie — and I couldn’t NOT pair these two together! Every time Finn was in trouble in Star Wars I was literally like “if anything happens to my baby, I will kill everyone on this planet and then myself”… and I was the same when it came to June and Day, not gonna lie. Plus, it’s just a super fun read!

Rey | A Darker Shade of Magic

I don’t know whether I’m in love with Rey or I want to BE Rey… or maybe both. But I can’t help it! I have a thing for badass girls who can wield a weapon! Which is why I’m also so obsessed with Lila Bard from A Darker Shade of Magic. She could kill me before I even realised what was happening, and honestly, if that’s what it takes to be in the same room as her, I’m not complaining. READ THIS SERIES IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY!

Kylo Ren | Tarnished Are the Stars

I picked up this book after hearing it was like a more queer version of The Lunar Chronicles, but I fell in love with it because of Nathaniel — the Commissioner’s son who’s determined to earn his father’s respect by capturing a wanted Technician. Yep, he gave me total Kylo Ren vibes and I was soooo here for it. I just can’t help falling in love with the brooding boys with daddy issues. I know! It’s a real problem!

Rose Tico | The Gilded Wolves

Let’s not even get me started on how badly they did Rose dirty in the last film and instead rewatch the scenes she’s in in The Last Jedi over and over again! Because that’s healthy! Ugh, I love Rose Tico so much and nothing’s ever going to change that. If you’re craving more books with badass girls and team dynamics, you need to add The Gilded Wolves to your TBR.

Luke Skywalker | Carry On

If you love a good old “chosen one” trope, you can’t go past Carry On. I feel like this trope has been with us since the beginning of time, and while it often feels quite overdone, I still can’t seem to get enough of that kind of content! It’s just so comforting to fall back into these familiar stories with nobodies becoming somebodies, powerful mentors, and impossible tasks ahead.

Han Solo | Aurora Rising

How could I talk about Star Wars and NOT mention Aurora Rising? Much like Tyler Jones in Aurora Rising, Han Solo has a bit of a weird squad too — a princess, a chosen one, a Wookie, and two droids that basically get into more trouble than the rest of them combined. Plus, the space angst is REAL in Aurora Rising as well, so be prepared to feel allllll the feels.

Leia Organa | Four Dead Queens

Leia is such a badass woman and I freaking LOVED following her through the Star Wars films. If it weren’t for her, Han and Luke would have died a hundred times over. Leia knows how to get stuff done! And because of that, she totally reminded me of Keralie from Four Dead Queens. I think these two would get on fabulously — and save the galaxy before supper.

Who’s your favourite Star Wars character? Have you read any of the books I’ve mentioned? Do you have any recommendations? I’d love to know!

  1. Yaaaay, welcome to the fandom! This is a very cute post – I love your choices!

MOVIE NINE DID ROSE SO DIRTY. I HATE IT.

Also, the Kylo love is real. It can’t be helped.
